[Ethan is running through Levanta Town with a worried look on his face, looking in trash cans, under stairwells, and into every nook and cranny he can find. While he searches, he's calling as loudly as he can without attracting too many glares from the townsfolk.]

Marbles? Marbles, where are you? I told him to stay put...!

Hmm, I don't know anybody named Gold. [Considering New Bark has all of ten people in it, this is...really weird. Ethan is quiet as he thinks about this. When Leaf speaks again, he perks up.]

Oh, I go to college in Saffron! I just started at KSU last fall.

... When was a college built? [Between all the trainers and the war effort, they couldn't afford to have something like that.]

[Ethan thoughtfully looks at the ground while he processes this. Then his head snaps up—oh! Like that other person who looked like him that he ran into—SUDDENLY THINGS MAKE SENSE.]

Wait, you're from another universe or something, right?

[She glance at Ethan out of the corner of her eye. She's not stopping because he just had a sudden revelation.]

Yes. That's how this place works.

[ducttaped]

[He nods to himself once, sharply, as things fall into place. Then he realizes he's falling behind, and races to catch up to Leaf again. He's grinning, pleased with himself for figuring it out.]

... It's dangerous. [As in, we are in the middle of a war with Sinnoh.

[Ethan's eyes go comically wide, but he doesn't slow down this time—he's learned his lesson there, at least.]

W—what? With who?

[Good boy, fast learner.]

With Sinnoh.

But—I've got friends from there—why?

[oh hey, is that a playground in the distance?]

It's a long story, and hopefully you won't have to know it.

[She'll point] There's the playground. Look for your Marill.

[ducttaped]

[Ethan would respond but he is distracted by OH HEY PLAYGROUND BRB RUNNING TOWARDS IT. He shouts back over his shoulder.]

Come on, Leaf!

[If you choose to follow him, you'll see him ducking underneath the bridge, looking for his pokemon underneath the first play set. This is...possibly the hugest playground he's ever seen.]

[She'll huff, but follow along.

She also won't really be helping, instead she'll just lean against the closest slide.]

[He scans the area below the play set, and then peers up through the bridge slats. Lots of kids and a pokemon or two! No marill yet. He wanders out, head swinging back and forth as he looks, and then—]

Marbles!!

[Aaaand Ethan has dashed off again towards a marill, who is happily blowing bubbles in the middle of a pile of children. The marill looks up when it sees Ethan and starts waddling towards him as fast as he can go, arms outstretched. Ethan sweeps him off the ground with a cry of happiness and lifts him high in the air before he cuddles it. Touching reunion moment!]

Cue sarcastic laughter from Leaf before she peels herself off of the slide]

Try not to lose him again.

[Ethan scolds his marill softly for a moment before he hears Leaf's laughter, and he turns around, looking confused for a moment by how sarcastic she sounded. Then, he shakes his head as she comes closer, and holds Marbles out towards her.]

Marbles, this is Leaf. But she's a new Leaf. It's weird. But she's nice, she helped me find you!

[Marbles considers Leaf for a moment, and then blows a single large, shimmery bubble at her.]

[She'll smile just a little before popping the bubble.]

Nice to meet you, Marbles.

[ducttaped]

[Marill gives a pleased chirrup when Leaf pops the bubble and smiles at the girl, waving his arms at her. Ethan, however, looks more serious, frowning slightly.]

Um, Leaf? Thanks for helping me. I'll...try harder to be a good trainer from now on.

Right, yeah, that makes sense. I'll prove it to you!

Um, I...still have to buy stuff at the Poké Mart. Are you headed that way?
