Can you figure out why Ethan's marill has this name

[Ethan is running through Levanta Town with a worried look on his face, looking in trash cans, under stairwells, and into every nook and cranny he can find. While he searches, he's calling as loudly as he can without attracting too many glares from the townsfolk.]

Marbles? Marbles, where are you? I told him to stay put...!

[Huh? Cecilia's just been hanging around the town, trying to give her Pokemon freedom - but there's somebody who needs her halp! So have a teenager and her Emboar.]
Mister... Mister? Are you okay?

[Ethan nearly runs into Cecilia before he tunes into what she's saying.]

Wha—oh, sorry—oh, I'm fine but, have you seen a marill anywhere? He got lost again—

[His eyes are large and worried, and he moves away from you to look behind another pile of boxes while he talks to you.]

His name is Marbles.

[A Marill? Cecilia flicks out her Pokedex, and firstly looks up what it looks like. And then... she shakes her head.]
Sorry, I haven't seen your Marbles! But I'll help - me and my team! Okay?

[ducttaped]

[He looks up at the mention of the Cecilia's team, and despite his worry, his eyes widen at the sight of her emboar. Ethan speaks directly to him:]

Wow! I've never seen a pokemon like you before!

[He moves closer, admiring his markings and the mantle of flame around his neck.]

You look sort of like my friend's typhlosion! You take up way more space, though.

[nuzlocker]

[The Emboar seemed to blush a bit, talking. And then, Cecilia nodded.]
Ganon says... he's flattered, but he's not that special. But he is special! He was my starter, and I love him very much.
[...]
Well, I'd better call out everybody else if we're gonna find your Pokemon~!
[And Cecilia tosses up three Pokeballs. Out come a Zebstrika (who backs up straight away), Leavanny (who spins and strikes a pose), and Haxorus (who just stands his ground).]

... Did you lose your pokemon?

[ ooc: thank you, mod! ]

[Ethan is half-underneath a fruit stand, and when he replies, his voice is muffled.] I didn't lose him, Marbles lost me!

[He pokes his head out. He's a little dirty, now, and his eyes widen a little in recognition.] Oh! Leaf, is that you? Or are you some other-Leaf?

What's the difference?

I don't recognize you. I'm not your Leaf.

[Ethan looks a little downcast at the mention of "starter."] ...Marbles was my first pokemon. He's pretty strong and he can take care of himself, but...

[Then Cecilia calls out the rest of her team, and Ethan is momentarily sidetracked again.]

I've never seen any of your pokemon! Where are you from?

[He laughs with delight when he sees Leavanny's pose, and goes over to say hello to him especially. He offers a hand for a handshake.]

All your pokemon seem so healthy! You must be a really great trainer.

[ducttaped]

[Ethan sits back on his heels and contemplates this for a moment. Then, he laughs.]

You know, I'm not sure! I have to find him, though.

[He looks a little disappointed when he realizes you're not from his universe.] Oh. Well, um, have you seen a marill anywhere?

[And in response Leaf just rolls her eyes.]

Where was the last place you saw it?

[redonmyhands]

[A rather tall Red who is accompanied by a Swinub, a Tepig, and a Spoink approaches you. He doesn't seem to be thrilled to be though.]

Lost your mind kid?

[ducttaped]

[As Ethan is halfway up a ladder that leads to some townsperson's roof, it may indeed appear that way! He looks down at you and shouts.]

What—? Red?

[Then he realizes that this must be another Red; his Red doesn't talk like that. Nor is he that...tall.

After looking around him for a moment to see what Red was talking about, he suddenly realizes, and laughs.]

Not my mind, my marill! Have you seen one anywhere?

[Then he sees the three pig pokemon with Red, he gives them a little wave. But just a small one—the ladder wobbles and he quickly places both hands on the rungs again, to steady it.]

[[ooc: I have one more question: should I tag "game: ethan" & "au" in every post that I participate in, or only the ones which I start?]]

[Ethan gets to his feet, brushing at his legs and the seat of his pants. Leaf's a little taller than him, so he figures she's about the same age as the one he knows.]

I was at the the poké mart. Marbles doesn't usually go far—I bet he's playing hide and seek again, but I don't know where he'd go. We're new here.

[He turns to look at Leaf.] If you were a marill, where would you go?

... Water type pokemon go to water. I'd look for a lake.

I would also try to be more responsible.

[ooc: Just the ones that you start.]

[Cecilia smiled.] I'm from Unova! And, um, thanks... but I'm not that good of a trainer.
[Even though she beat Team Plasma, she has confidence issues.
The Leavanny - Mog - gave his best smile, and held out his leaf for said handshake! Yay :) Meanwhile, the Haxorus has started his search! He could hear everything, after all.]
But really, your starter is your most important partner - I couldn't stand it if I lost Ganon. That's why it's super important to find Marbles!

[He looks down to confirm this at the three pigs, Tepig and Swinub distracted with waving at the nice young man. With annoyance, he looks at the older of the brothers, the Spoink, who notions Red to be a gentleman and hold that ladder in place.]

Wait, Red--How do you know my name human??

[The ladder shudders suddenly as Red makes his way up, a snarl in his voice.]

[ducttaped]

Hmm, a lake... [a sudden idea.] Do you know if they have fountains around here, or things like that? Or playgrounds?

[At her scolding, he looks down guiltily, but doesn't say anything.]

It's a town. There are children here, so there are also a few playgrounds.

There's a fountain in the center of town.

[Ethan has never seen any of these three pokemon, and watches them with friendly interest. His attention refocuses when Red goes to steady the ladder.]

Oh, thanks! You don't have to oh my god I'm sorry I didn't do it help!!

[Cue Ethan SCRAMBLING UP THE LADDER and slipping on the roof tiles as he desperately tries to get away!!]

[Ethan nods; that makes a lot of sense, suddenly.] I'm from Johto.

[Since he's shaking Mog's hand, he asks him:] What do you think? Do you think she's not that good a trainer?

[Eventually Ethan turns towards the Haxorus, watching him search. He bites his lip.] Marbles has been wandering off since I was little. It's not so bad when we were at home, since I knew all of his hiding spots, but here...

[Something in the helpless way he shakes his head belies more confusion than Ethan gives voice to—it's not just losing Marbles that has him worried. He feels really out of his depth, being so far from home like this.]

Um, excuse me? [He's trying to get the Haxorus's attention.] I have Marbles's poké ball, will the smell help you find him?

[nuzlocker]

[Cecilia translates, as Mog speaks.] Um, Mog says... 'Of course she's not, she saved the world from that unfabulous cloak man.' Oh, come on Mog, you helped! [Plus a Pokemon died.
But Cecilia has trouble understanding that fear, though he notices the confusion.] Don't worry about it. But really, Johto? I've always wanted to go there, you know! Well, to the Battle Frontier, anyway.
[The Haxorus turns, and approaches with a bit of a grunt. Yeah, it'd help.]

It's a big town, that's the problem! Can you show me where the playgrounds are? He'd probably go there first.

...I'm Ethan, by the way. Are you from around here?

[ducttaped]

[Ethan grins at Mog and Cecilia's interaction. She's really cute!] You must be pretty famous where you come from.

Oh, the battle frontier! We do a lot of business with them—they get their pokémon from us. If you ever go, let me know how you like our pokémon!

[He unclips the poké ball from his belt and holds it up to Haxorus.] Thanks, big guy.
